“Behind the Camera” Awards give Mad Props to Hollywood’s own Gadget Guru

Los Angeles, CA (November 9, 2008)—When presented with the arduous task of bringing comic book legend to life via Robert Downey Jr.’s RT chest piece in Iron Man or the re-imagining of Star Trek’s iconic tele-communicator for director JJ Abrams’ highly anticipated Star Trek prequel, who do Hollywood movie makers call upon? Feature Film Property Master and self-professed gadget guru, Russell Bobbitt.

Bobbitt is known as a hands-on filmmaker who prefers being on set at all times during physical production. Over the past 25 years he’s created props for every film genre: from historically-precise period pieces and hard hitting action-adventures to cutting edge sci-fi flicks and raucous comedies. Some of his credits include: Jon Favreau’s Iron Man and Zathura; JJ Abrams’ Star Trek, Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes; Robert De Niro’s The Good Shepherd; Gary Ross’ Pleasantville; Todd Phillips’ Starsky & Hutch and The Hangover; McG’s Charlie’s Angels and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle; Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula; Kenny Ortega’s Hocus Pocus and Newsies; Irwin Winkler’s Guilty By Suspicion; Brian Levant’s The Flintstones, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, and Jingle All the Way; Brad Silberling’s Casper; and Chris Columbus’ Heartbreak Hotel.

On November 9, 2008, Russell Bobbitt will be officially recognized for his 25 years of work as a top feature film Property Master: designing, procuring and manufacturing cinematic props that both engage and entertain movie-viewing audiences around the world.

Aware that mainstream award ceremonies overlook several essential crafts and film crew positions, including that of Property Master, Hamilton Timepieces in conjunction with Hollywood Life Magazine created the Hamilton Behind-the-Camera Awards, an event that gives deserved attention and long overdue recognition to these vital film artisans.

The November ceremony marks the organizations’ third annual awards event, which is an intimate, red carpet gathering held at the Highlands in Hollywood, CA. Russell Bobbitt will be presented the Property Master Honoree Award by friend and Charlie’s Angels co-worker, actress, Lucy Liu. Past recipients of the Property Master honor include Doug Harlocker (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Spiderman) and Great Britain’s Ty Teiger (Batman Begins and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones).
Other category recipients of the 3rd annual Hamilton Behind-the-Camera Awards are Stop-Loss Director Kimberly Pierce who will be awarded by Ryan Phillippe, Rachel Getting Married Screenwriter, Jenny Lumet presented by Anne Hathaway, and Get Smart Stunt Choreographer Doug Coleman presented by Harrison Ford.

Film making is not where Bobbitt’s artistic endeavors begin and end. He’s poised to conquer cyber-space in early 2009 with his namesake website (www.RussellBobbitt.com); a Hollywood meets high tech Blog featuring the hottest movie gadgets and goodies the public has yet to see, galvanized with behind the scenes photos and the entertaining and often outrageous tales of his life as a Hollywood Prop Man.
